Dear Micah:

I am very glad to hear from you. I have also believed that my
family name was unique, and you seem to be the only man to share
it besides my relatives in the Ukraine! My background is as
follows:
My ancestors on the father side were ukrainian cozaks (so was the
name for people who lived along the Russia borders and defended
it against intruders). Both my parents originate from the same
village near Poltava (it is an old town in central Ukraine known
as the place where Piter the Great have beaten Sweden army in
1812). My father was a military officer and travelled a great
deal both within the Soviet Union and abroad before settling in a
small town near Kharkov, Ukraine. I have graduated from the
Kharkov University in 1979 and since then have been working in
the Institute of Physics and Technology (at present, it's a
National Scientific Center) as a researcher. In 1987, I have got
my Ph. D. and the position of a senior research staff member. I
am interested in Materials Science, in particular, in the theory
of Radiation Effects in Solids. I have been to United States in
1993 and 1994 for short visits to attend some conferences, and I
hope to visit the U. S. in the next year, but so far I am not
sure if I can. I am fond of sports, travelling and making new
friends. Married and have got a son of 13 years old.

That's a lot. A relative or not, I am glad to know about your
existence, and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Vladimir Dubinko
