Report from Web 1.0

I made it "into the city" last night for packed Web 1.0 get-together, and got to see lots of faces previously known only as names. Merlin is a splendid host. The CalTrain ride up was smooth and uneventful. Upon arriving, we were greeted with comemorative Web 1.0 hipster PDAs, complete with a metal binder clip, and an old-school Powerbook as a hand-coded HTML sign-in sheet. Lots of {blink}, {center}, {font}, and even {spacer} tags to be had. (My first attempt at rendering this sentence resulted in my entire blog page blinking, heh)

I gave a two minute presentation on (what else) Plain Text: Extensible Markup for the Future, which was technically cheating, since it was about more recent work. I almost killed Robin "roblimo" Miller when he tripped over my backpack.

I'm very proud to have collaborated on a new business model as well, combining push with micropayments. Given enough eyeballs, the more content you push out, the more monitization ensues. :)

Next stop is a small imitation conference down the road called "Web 2.0" -m
