What is hackability? (or, May Madness)

It was the beginning of May, 2002 I started blogging, using the Blogger service. It was the beginning of May 2004 when I switched to iTDS, my homegrown system. Now in the beginning of May, 2005, I've switched again.

Having your own personally-written system is, of course, the most hackable solution possible. It's great for research or just being able to say you did it, but it lacks the important community factor.

The PyBlosxom community is thriving. It's a balance between a totally sanitary, pre-packaged solution (like Blogger), and a totally do-it-yourself solution (like iTDS).

ITDS will live on, but it was always destined to work better as a flexible plugin part of larger systems than its own software universe. -m
